FASHION TREND FORECASTING
This course will introduce you to the various aspects of trend forecasting and give you an understanding of how trend forecasting works in practice, as well as how it is used in the fashion industry.
During the course, we will start with an introduction to what defines trends and tendencies, and how it has changed over the past 20 years. We will look at different trend forecasting companies and the ways in which they work to achieve their clients’ goals and needs.
Then we will dive into the different aspects of trend forecasting. We are going to look at catwalks and fair analyses, as well as the most relevant retail and consumer trends that exist. This will be followed by a trip in and around Copenhagen, where we will show how a trend researcher collects trends in the city’s most inspiring locations. We will also review and argue the importance of finding inspiration from unique sources in order to better anticipate the latest trends.
The participants will then be educated in how to create a trend moodboard. This will include both colors, prints, silhouettes, textiles and detail inspiration. The final project will be to design your own visual trend moodboard. Here there will be time for individual sparring and feedback.
At the end of the course you will have an understanding of the following areas:
- Trend forecasting and its importance in the fashion industry
- Development of the most important trend forecasting companies, how they operate and work with their business
- Colours, prints, silhouettes and details and their influence on trends
- How contemporary life and cultural influences affect fashion trends
- Investigating trends using moodboards
This course is for those who want to learn about trends and how to predict them. This applies, among other things:

- Fashion journalists
There will be thorough and individual guidance for all students. You will receive a course certificate when you have completed the course, which you can use in connection with your CV or for future employers.

There is an introduction to the course and how trend forecasting is used in the fashion industry. There will be an introduction to global trend forecasting companies, as well as how the companies work with trend forecasting in their daily work.
In this module, there is a sharp focus on catwalk and fashion fair analyzes and how these can be prepared. In addition, retail and consumer trends will be reviewed, where the course participants will gain an insight into how trends arise among consumers. The module ends with an inspirational tour in Copenhagen, where the work of trends researchers is reviewed.
Moodboard is introduced where it is teached how to develop a trend moodboard from scratch. Here it will be reviewed which forms of inspiration can be used, as well as how to process the inspiration into concrete results. In addition, colors, prints, silhouettes and details are looked at more closely in the research section.
There is an introduction to the task of the course where the students have to design their own visual trend moodboard. Here there will be individual sparring, and the course participants will work with all the knowledge they have learned so far.
Completion and presentation of the students' assignment. We will review all assignments, and there will subsequently be feedback and guidance on how the course participants can use their newly learned knowledge and experience in their further progress in the fashion industry.

The Scandinavian Academy of Fashion Design is among the oldest design schools in Europe and since 1931 the school has educated a large number of the leading fashion designers, stylists and business people in the Danish and foreign fashion world.
The professional affiliated teachers and instructors are all employed within the world of fashion either with their own brand or employed in industry. Thereby, they will constantly contribute with current information from the industry, while at the same time creating an important contact between company and course participants.

Unless otherwise stated in the course text, cancellation and refund of the course fee can be made up to 14 days before the start of the course. After this, registration is binding and the fee cannot be refunded. If, contrary to expectations, a course cannot be established, the entire course fee will be returned.
