The Sewing & Techniques course will teach participants to become familiar with basic sewing and sewing techniques as well as help participants transform their ideas into reality.

Course Description

If you have the ideas, but don’t know exactly how to construct and sew the models, then this course is definitely for you.

The course helps you transform your ideas into reality so that they fit you and your body exactly. Be inspired by today’s trends or design your own models. You make a finished pattern so that it fits you perfectly, or you use a basic shape from a previous tailoring course. You will also learn how to sew to achieve a professional result.

There will be thorough guidance in choosing patterns, materials and sewing technical details, so that you achieve a result that matches your ideas. The course also includes teaching in fitting and adjustments, and there will also be a focus on how to dress the different body types as well as how to highlight advantages and tone down any imbalances.

Participants must have a basic knowledge of using a sewing machine.

Outcome

At the end of the course you will have an understanding of the following areas:

  • Material teaching: Various substances and embedding materials
  • Basic understanding of body shapes
  • Pattern understanding, cutting and adjustment

Modules

Module 1: Introduction

The course is introduced and the various machines and tools are reviewed. An individual plan will subsequently be drawn for each individual course participant, where the individual ideas will be reviewed.

Module 2: Presentation and Commencement

18. september 2023, 17.00-20.00

For some modules, a small relevant presentation is given, such as a review of material, layout on fabric, alignment, etc. In this module, the instructor briefly reviews the different fabric types and provides information on which fabrics are suitable for the various clothing items. After that, each individual course participant starts with their respective project.

Module 3: Project Work (Part 1)

25. september 2023, 17.00-20.00

The project has been chosen and the course participants start with supervision. Work is done individually and the teacher guides the students individually with the choice of patterns, materials and sewing technical details.

Module 4: Project Work (Part 2)

2. october 2023, 17.00-20.00

Each individual course participant continues to work on their project or what they are currently working on. Work continues individually and the teacher guides the participants with the choice of patterns, materials and sewing technical details.

Module 5: Product Development and Evaluation

9. october 2023, 17.00-20.00

The module starts with a common review, where it is discussed how the course participants have worked with their respective project halfway through and whether parts of it need to be changed. After this, each individual continues to work on their project or the changes that the individual student wishes to bring to the project.

Module 6: Project Work (Part 3)

23. october 2023, 17.00-20.00

The work is continued from the previous module, where the course participants continue to work with the chosen design/product. During the module, there will be individual sparring, and the course participants will continuously receive feedback regarding tools that can be used, good advice for implementation, etc.

Module 7: Project Work (Part 4)

30. october 2023, 17.00-20.00

Each course participant continues to work on their project or what they are currently working on. Work continues to be done individually and the teacher guides the participants individually with the choice of patterns, materials and sewing technical details.

Module 8: Project Work (Part 5)

6. november 2023, 17.00-20.00

Each course participant continues to work on their project or what they are currently working on. From here, the participants enter the last phase of the course, and this is where all learning from the previous parts of the course must be conveyed in the chosen project.

Module 9: Project Work (Part 6)

13. november 2023, 17.00-20.00

The work is continued from the previous module, where the course participants work with the chosen design/product. In this phase, the participant are tasked with going in depth with design and details.

Module 10: Completion and Feedback

20. november 2023, 17.00-20.00

The selected product/design is completed and we will review all solutions. There will subsequently be feedback and guidance on how the course participants can use their newly learned knowledge and experience in their further progress in the fashion industry.

The Scandinavian Academy of Fashion Design is among the oldest design schools in Europe and since 1931 the school has educated a large number of the leading fashion designers, stylists and business people in the Danish and foreign fashion world.

The professional affiliated teachers and instructors are all employed within the world of fashion either with their own brand or employed in industry. Thereby, they will constantly contribute with current information from the industry, while at the same time creating an important contact between company and course participants.

Registration & Payment

Payment is made upon registration and can be paid with VISA, Mastercard, American Express, Diners, Maestro, Apple Pay and Google Pay. All amounts are in Danish kroner (DKK) and incl. VAT.

If you are unable to pay with one of the above payment solutions, you may find an alternative payment option by contacting the school’s administration on phone (+45) 33 13 09 26 between 9.00-14.00 every weekday.

Unless otherwise stated in the course text, cancellation and refund of the course fee can be made up to 14 days before the start of the course. After this, registration is binding and the fee cannot be refunded. If, contrary to expectations, a course cannot be established, the entire course fee will be returned.
