PATTERN CUTTING (ADVANCED)

The Pattern Cutting (Advanced) course builds on the Pattern Cutting (Beginner) course and covers trousers, jackets and variations, which will be constructed, sewn and adjusted in full size.

Course Description

The Pattern Cutting (Advanced) course builds on the Pattern Cutting (Beginner) course. The focus is on trousers, jackets and variations above. Basic shape patterns will be constructed, which will be sewn up and adjusted to full size.

This course is a fresh way to learn pattern construction step by step. Advanced theory around model development will be reviewed, and you will make your own basic pants and jacket form in paper and sewn up in fabric.

Variations on the basic form will be reviewed and you will be given the opportunity to create a pattern of your own design. The course will provide course participants with a deep understanding of the principles of this design discipline supported by practical training in an industrial level environment.

Outcome

At the end of the course you will have an understanding of the following areas:

  • Measures and measuring chart
  • Cutting basic trouser shapes – sewing up and adjusting
  • Variations over trousers
  • Cutting the basic shape of the jacket – sewing up and adjusting
  • Variations on basic jacket shapes
  • Production pattern with seam allowances and markings

Target Group

This course is for people who want to develop their creative skills. This applies, among other things:

  • Course participants from the course Pattern Cutting (Beginner)
  • People with experience in basic tailoring
  • Entrepreneurs/Start-Ups with experience in basic tailoring
  • Students who want to refresh their design practice

There will be thorough and individual guidance for all students. You will receive a course certificate when you have completed the course, which you can use in connection with your CV or for future employers.

Modules

Module 1: Introduction and Pants

17. october 2023, at 17.00 - 20.00

The course participants are introduced to the course and will subsequently be introduced to pattern construction with a focus on basic trouser patterns, in order to gain experience with how pattern parts function and develops. The participants develop a set of trousers in size 1:4 and then in size 1:1.

Module 2: Adjustments

24. october 2023, at 17.00 - 20.00

In this module, the course participants adjust the trouser patterns and adapt them so that they are ready for sewing. The trousers are then sewn up in cotton canvas.

Module 3: Variations

31. october 2023, at 17.00 - 20.00

The work is continued from the previous module, and in addition the participants are given the task of experimenting with layers, pockets and other variations. After this, the course participants are introduced to how simple wide trousers are developed.

Module 4: 1:4 Jacket

7. november 2023, at 17.00 - 20.00

The recipe for a jacket in size 38 is introduced to the course participants, and they are then tasked with developing a jacket pattern in size 1:4. Own jacket in sizes 1:1 and 1:4 will be developed next.

Module 5: 1:1 Jacket

14. november 2023, at 17.00 - 20.00

Work on the basic jacket pattern continues. In this module, we also go in depth with cuttings and adjusting the basic shape of the jacket.

Module 6: Sleeves

21. november 2023, at 17.00 - 20.00

In this module, the course participants will be tasked with making sleeve patterns for a half or full silhouette. During the module, there will be individual sparring, and the course participants will continuously receive feedback regarding tools that can be used, good advice for implementation, etc.

Module 7: Variations

28. november 2023, at 17.00 - 20.00

In this module, the course participants will be tasked with experimenting with different cutting variations. We will, among other things, look at revers and loose jacket basic shapes.

Module 8: Conclusion and Feedback

5. december 2023, at 17.00 - 20.00

The work from the previous module is completed and we will review all solutions and projects. There will subsequently be feedback and guidance on how the course participants can use their newly learned knowledge and experience in their further work.

Unless otherwise stated in the course text, cancellation and refund of the course fee can be made up to 14 days before the start of the course. After this, registration is binding and the fee cannot be refunded. If, contrary to expectations, a course cannot be established, the entire course fee will be returned.
