Sustainability (Company Project)


Contains basic understanding of product characteristics, product and material knowledge. Emphasis is placed on sustainability with the aim of understanding and participating in production and product development processes.

Syllabus

Starting from a sustainable fashion and/or design company, the students must set up a problem formulation that focuses on sustainability in the fashion industry. The students start by visiting the company where they are introduced to the company’s strategy and vision in the form of lectures.

In addition, they learn about the sustainable life cycle. After which, in groups, they must go through a design process that must end in a finished sustainable product. The course ends with a presentation of the project.

Knowledge

The student

  • Must have development-based knowledge in relation to trends and future thinking.
  • Must have knowledge about sustainable textile design and how sustainability is part of the designer's work.
  • Must be able to understand and reflect on the application of technology within industrial and experimental product manufacturing.

Skills

The student

  • Must be able to work experimentally and commercially in a current and future sustainable context.
  • Must be able to communicate in a company culture as well as in a local and global context.
  • Must be able to convey practical issues and proposed solutions to partners and users.

Competences

The student

  • Must be able to independently and professionally present and argue for inclusion and exclusion in the development process as well as for the design solution itself.
  • Must be able to handle independently and participate in interdisciplinary collaboration in accordance with the ethics of the profession.
  • Must be able to explain the product's cycle from raw material to disposal or recycling, as well as know the economic aspect of the product's production and marketing itself.
