Course Description
In this lingerie course, we’ll explore a wide range of sewing techniques used in lingerie, with a special focus on underwear. Lingerie and underwear fall under the more specialized category of garment construction, where precision, fit, and finish play a central role.
We work with various types of materials, lace, elastic, and embellishments, which can be combined in many different ways. There is room to explore form, expression, and design, and to draw inspiration from existing lingerie and modern knitwear.
The course introduces the basic principles of both flat and round construction, which are then put into practice. We’ll go over various techniques for seams and edge finishes, as well as methods for attaching lace, elastic, and straps. In addition, we design and sew various types of lingerie and underwear.
Working with lingerie requires care and precision—especially when it comes to patternmaking, cutting, and sewing. On the other hand, the fine details and excellent fit make it possible to achieve a professional and polished result.
To participate in the course, you must be familiar with a sewing machine and, ideally, have some sewing experience.

Teacher
Melina Josefsen
Melina Josefsen is a graduate of SAFD and works as a freelance designer in the fields of fashion, costume design, and contemporary art. She has experience in the fashion industry and works in lingerie and underwear design, as well as costume design for film, television, and theater.
Modules
An introduction to the course, in which participants learn about the basic tools and materials needed for sewing, as well as how to use them correctly.
Participants are also introduced to various methods for preparing materials, laying out patterns, and relevant sewing and stitching techniques for making lingerie.
In this module, we’ll begin altering various pairs of panties, putting some of the techniques we covered in Module 1 into practice.
We’ll continue sewing various pairs of panties. You’ll begin working with more advanced techniques and details specific to lingerie design. We’re now getting started on the lace edging.
In this module, we’ll delve into the more specific details of sewing a chemise. We work with lace, overlock stitching, and straps with rose stitch in both sturdy and soft fabrics. At the same time, more advanced techniques and details are introduced.
In this module, we focus on the design and construction of a bra based on a given pattern. You’ll learn how to sew a bra using beautiful and delicate fabrics.
We’re getting started on designing and sewing corsets.
We’ll continue working on the corsets from the last module. We’ll take a closer look at the craftsmanship and finish.
In the final module of the course, we’ll work on sewing a bodystocking, which is a complex and exciting aspect of lingerie design.
At the same time, we’ll review and complete the previous projects so that you gain a comprehensive understanding of the entire process, from pattern-making and cutting to sewing lingerie.
This module marks the end of the course, during which you have built up a solid foundation of knowledge and practical skills in lingerie design and sewing.

Unless otherwise stated in the course text, withdrawal and refund of course fees can be made up to 14 days before the start of the course. After that, registration is binding and the fee is non-refundable. In the unlikely event that a team cannot be established, the full course fee will be returned.
