Teacher

Mikkel Johansen

Mikkel Johansen graduated from the Scandinavian Academy of Fashion Design (formerly Margrethe-Skolen) and works as an independent fashion designer and product developer.

Modules

The teacher introduces himself and the course. Course participants review their expectations and individual skills. An individual plan will subsequently be drawn up for each individual course participant, where what the individual wishes to go into in depth will be reviewed. The different machines and tools are reviewed throughout the course as it becomes relevant.

In this module, the instructor briefly reviews the different types of fabric and provides information on which fabrics are suitable for the various clothing items. After that, each individual course starts with their respective project. Short presentations on relevant and general techniques and knowledge are given in plenary as it becomes relevant to the course participants.

Students begin their individual projects with a focus on construction, patterns, material selection and sewing technical details. Prototypes are developed and assembled and tested through fittings. Based on feedback and adjustments, patterns are prepared for further sewing. The trainer provides individual guidance and support throughout the process.

Students continue working from the completed patterns and start sewing their final products. Along the way, they receive ongoing guidance, feedback and technical advice from the trainer. The focus is on the realization of the design, including customization, detailing and finishing touches.

The selected product/design is finalized. Course participants and teacher review the product and possible additions/corrections together. Afterwards, there will be personalized feedback and guidance on how course participants can apply their newly learned knowledge and experience to future projects.
