Deconstruction
Consisting of deconstruction as a theoretical and aesthetic concept, you will be introduced to various aspects of deconstruction in fashion. Conventional rules for function, silhouette and production technique are challenged, and materials, techniques and new expressions are explored.
Syllabus
Based on the concept of deconstruction, the students must design and develop a series of 2 to 3 outfits (one outfit covers the whole body). These outfits are made from self-selected clothing parts, which are changed, processed and put together again, with minimal use of new materials. The project involves the students trying to bend the conventional rules for function, silhouette and production technique within clothing, and the students are tasked with testing, processing, reforming materials, techniques and new expressions.
The students must simultaneously document their project progress in the form of photo documentation, sketches and sewing samples which must be presented at the end. Methods, techniques within detail development, material and silhouette studies, design/idea/concept, sewing samples, etc. are taught and emphasis is placed.
