Draping (Advanced) - Scandinavian Academy of Fashion Design

Draping (Advanced)

Consists of advanced techniques, where an understanding of form and composition, proportional shift and material composition is achieved. In addition, creative draping and creative cutting as well as the design of creative ideas follow.

Syllabus

It starts with working with advanced basic shapes in combination with the shapes of the body. Draping is complimented with tailoring, where the students have to develop their ideas from two-dimensional solution proposals to three-dimensional garment parts.

Through the work, the students will gain a realistic understanding of design development with the help of conventional cutting and creative material processing on the mannequin. The work facilitates a process that encourages students to experiment and design on the mannequin, and then the skills necessary to transfer their work to patterned paper, drawing on the skills gained through the cutting phase.
