Fashion Drawing & Illustration

2. Semester

Consists of communicating ideas through drawing and illustrations in a fashion context. Contains work tools and a development processes that are fundamental to being able to communicate ideas and messages. The objective is to learn how to translate inspiration into drawing and develop a personal graphic style in order to be able to oversee the preparation process in connection with a professional graphic presentation. Understanding of fashion and working graphically with fashion and expressing it through sketches to a professional visual expression.

The teaching must lead to the student being able to present his own design in a professional manner through drawings and illustrations. Consists of basic and advanced techniques and material theory to be able to create a three-dimensional model with structure and shape including tailoring technique, press technique, fitting technique and material theory.

Through tailoring techniques, it must be possible to translate an individual design into a modern, high-quality product. The product is processed with iron-on inlay materials, so that it achieves a functional and period-typical expression. The student must gain an understanding of form, finish, materials and technique at a high level of craftsmanship, and is able to produce a product containing an original expression.

Syllabus

A classic task is reviewed, including pattern cutting, stiffening, pressing technique, adaptation to mannequin, lines and shapes, adaptation of buttons, pockets, lapels and so on. Patterns are then adapted to the students’ individual goals, and the students carry out the task in every detail – not least in terms of showing an understanding of fashion in connection with tailoring.
